Expectations from Teachers

imag

It is true that no teacher of today can be Brahma, Vishnu or Mahesh but the society and parents who entrust their children to a school must at least be this much reassured that along with being master of his subject the teacher has to be an ideal of our culture, self respecting, gives respect to others and his behavior with parents is respectful and friendly being affectionate and impartial with students who are a ‘Living Book’ for him/her to read and understand to shape them in accordance with their talents and capacity arousing their interests by raising their self-esteem.

  • A teacher should never scold, admonish, insult, beat or compare students with others as it will simply develop inferiority complex in them affecting their interest, achievement and even behavior.
  • A teacher is expected to have sound health, full of energy, good character and conduct realizing the impact of his personality over his students being their role model.
  • He must have in mind his role in the development of his pupils and society avoiding intoxicants, drinks and smoking etc.
  • He is expected to have the knowledge of how children learn and always try to make a ‘mini’ child a ‘maxi’ one. He must appreciate children’s creative imagination helping and encouraging his pupils to grow.
  • Society values teacher’s knowledge none the less his faith in moral values. The trinity of knowledge, value frame- work and behavior makes any teacher respectable in society and acceptable to his pupils.
  • Constant introspection and self-evaluation is very much desired.

The teacher whose primary focus is on inculcation of values, discipline, love for the motherland, environmental awareness and takes earning as secondary can become a ‘guru’.
Only that teacher can be honored as successful who can instigate, inspire, encourage and empower his/her students to arise, awake and to proceed towards truth beauty and goodness. His teaching and his personality must give his/ her pupils the power to discriminate good from evil, to go from darkness to light and from mortality to immortality. In the process of awakening the third eye must open by harnessing the unconscious layers of the inner self.
A teacher is the Gangotri of education and it has to be pure and flowing eternally.
